Heaters and site-support equipment go in every episode, keeping work moving through winter outdoor conditions and sites with limited electricity. The real conditions the cast and professionals face stay on screen as they are.
Even the best tools stall when working conditions cannot support the job. The show elevated site conditions — long overlooked in home repair programming — into part of the content itself.
The homes differ each episode. The show visits places with circumstances all their own — a room where children from an orphanage live, the aging house of an independence patriot's descendant, a vacant house too run-down for a young person to live in.
